COMMITTEES

Purpose of Committees

A committee structure should be a means of involving more chamber members in a wider range of activities to accomplish the goals and objectives of the Chamber of Commerce. Since one of the primary purposes of any chamber is to promote the economy of its community, a committee structure that encourages a healthy business climate should be important.

Beautification Committee

This committee’s goal is to make our community attractive to visitors and residents alike. Keeping the roadsides and park area clean and neat and flowers placed in the medians around the Visitor Information Center shows the pride we take in our community. Flower and vegetable gardens at the Sullivan Roadhouse gather much attention and comment by our many visitors.

·         This committee serves to coordinate and maximize the efforts of many different groups and organizations as well as works to help secure business contributions to assist in the purchase and maintenance of beautification efforts.

·         This committee takes the lead in coordinating the efforts for the winter lights/holiday decorations and banners.

Economic Development Committee

This committee identifies and supports those projects (both private and public) that promote a sustained healthy economy for the greater Delta area. For example, the initiative to achieve a frontier look as you drive through town as a means of attracting visitors to stop and stay longer in the area.

Events and Festivals Committee

The mission of this committee is to help plan and develop the chief annual events and festivals of the Chamber. The committee works with the staff Activities Coordinator to ensure that activities are carried out in an organized manner.  Subcommittees will be formed for specific events such as: Festival of Lights, Friendly Frontier Days, July 4th Celebration, Farmers Market, Harvest Festival, Oktoberfest and Holiday Decorating Contest.  Meetings are held monthly or as needed.

Education Committee

The Education Committee serves to ensure the Delta area has a quality educational system as it is a determinant for many on whether they choose to live here.

Government and Military Affairs Committee

This committee identifies legislative issues that have an affect on the economic opportunities of the immediate area and the entire Interior.  It also encourages interaction between the military and the community to maintain mutually beneficial relationships.

Transportation and Natural Resources Committee

This committee identifies and prioritizes issues affecting transportation needs and impacts on the area and works to promote multiple uses of Alaska’s lands for the development of Alaska’s natural resources.
